REBUT 7 REASONS TO DEBATE . . .

REBUTTAL!!

REBUTTAL!!

REBUTTAL!!

1. Develop critical thinking - - Critical Thinking or Critical Cheating? As a way of life to win debates, students and even mass number of professional debaters comprehend their ideas from researches, news articles, commentaries, ideas of their comrades and etc. Simply means voicing out ideas from some other minds. Plus!! Often times debaters are tensed in front of bundle of audience causing them destruction and they are unable to think well or they can not avoid to forget a lot of things running inside their minds. If a person wants his/her critical thinking to be developed he/she better enroll to a Philosophy class where every single moment spent is devoted to critical thinking and furthermore, you are not under pressure.

2. Develop reasoning skills - - Everyday we tend to develop our reasoning skills. Beginning at home, we reason out to our mom regarding the need for an allowance increase (student nurses usually use the enormous number of photocopies). In school, emergency is very much abused word, it is the usual excuse of students, when coming in late to a class but no matter what emergency we utter to sir or ma’am, the point is we reason out for them to allow us to come in. To your bf/gf you also reason out why you can not make it on time just like when you reason out to your late requirements. Lastly, reasoning out to our mom again why we came home late. If this is the case, reasoning is a great part of our everyday life, so why debate?

3. To point out different ideas or share different ideas - - if you want to share different ideas debate is not the best way to do it. The “talking fast”, as a technique, for your opponent not to easily find POI moreover the audience can not comprehend either. How can you share all ideas within 7 minutes or less and you are not given enough freedom to speak out your contradicting ideas when your opponent is speaking. Better start doing a blog (just like this) or talk to your friends once in a while in a calm manner. I assure you, you can share ideas better with each other.

4. To develop skills in public speaking - - why do we need public speaking anyway? Public speaking usually involves politicians and we do not want to have the same impression unto us, the way people look at politicians. And it is such a shame to be branded as “politician”. We do not need to speak all the time to be heard sometimes silence is the best way to be heard. Do not add up anymore to the growing problem of noise pollution in our country.

5. To put in practice our grammar - - debate is usually time pressured so you have to speak fast it means nervousness plus setting your ideas in set. There is a great tendency of setting aside grammar. Admit it, in debate we overlook grammar and at times even mispronounced words are pardonable, for we are after by the content of speech. Writing or enroll to speech lab classes is the best way to practice our grammar. If you do not want to exert more effort and time or spend thousand bucks, simply talk with your friends, in addition, you have the freedom of what language to practice.

6. To develop sense of competitiveness - - how can you be competitive in debate? By raising your voice to be observed? By having the sympathy of the audience? Or by hearing “hear hear” instead of “shame shame”? It is not clear but I know majority will say that it is based on the thought you had shared or the way you spoke things out. The “thought” which is not really coming from you, which you could have just collected from others, and organized, or by sharing fallacy for no one else knows. These could be your passport in winning a debate. Unlike in sports you really share your own skills, which you practiced for years and not days of matter loading, to win the competition.

7. To persuade a person or a group of persons - - What’s the importance in persuading these people? We will not die if they will not believe in us. They have their own set of ideas just respect it. People are usually close minded; they are not open in adopting new ideas especially the unaccepted ones, notably regarding morals, cultures, theologies, and laws. Let’s site an example, no matter how we explain the “benefits” or “importance” of pre-marital sex or legalization of prostitution to a religious group, they will not believe in you for they are firm with their Faith in God. Remember, we can’t please everyone anyway.

GOD BLESS!!
